The question being asked most right now is, how does traffic look for getting into Ferndale. The cold hard truth is, “not very good.” In case you weren’t aware, there are a few things that have been working against traveling by car in Ferndale today.
After taking a drive down Main Street and up and down I-5 past the Main Street and Portal Way exits, the verdict is to take any route that doesn’t require exiting at either of those two exits. About 4:30pm, the back ups northbound at those exits extended all the way into the traffic lanes which is, at best, a dangerous place to be sitting in a car.
If you must go down Main Street, a recommended option would be to take the Slater Road exit and proceed north on LaBounty to Main Street. Unfortunately that is the detour route for Slater Road traffic so you won’t be alone, but at least you won’t be sitting with your tail out as traffic whizzes past at 70mph.
To reach west and/or north Ferndale, a recommended option would be to take the Grandview Road exit and turn right onto Grandview (avoiding the huge line of people turning left) and drive to Enterprise Road. Go south on Enterprise Road and then right onto Portal Way (heading back toward Grandview Road. Turn Right on Brown Road and continue as far west until you hit a desired road (e.g. Malloy Ave, Vista Drive, Church Road, etc.) for your destination.
To reach east Ferndale, take the Slater Road or Northwest Road exists and proceed north on Northwest Drive. Expect that you won’t be alone as others are likely to have the same idea.
