Tsunami Warning Sirens to Sound During Drill

shakeout posterAt 10:15am on October 15th (easy to remember), a worldwide earthquake drill will include activating local tsunami alert sirens as a means to test the system.

Neighbors in southern Ferndale may hear the sirens (Sandy Point sirens are not scheduled to participate in this drill).

According to the Washington Emergency Management Division,

This test, which begins at 10:15 a.m., will include the real sound of the siren – along with messages indicating it is a test. Typically, monthly tests include the playing of the Westminster chimes, followed by an abbreviated voice message.

As part of a worldwide event, the Great Washington ShakeOut features a statewide “drop, cover and hold on” drill on the same time and date.  Participants are provided resources for taking additional steps to prepare for earthquakes.

Families, schools, businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in the drill. Click here for information.

Thanks to neighbor Tasha for the tip.
