FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale Police responded to a report of a vehicle versus power pole crash Sunday, November 10th, in the 2300 block of Douglas Road about 12:30pm. About the same time, Puget Sound Energy received reports of a power outage in the nearby area.
Police found a blue Ford F-150 pickup off the road and about 10-feet down a slope. Tire tracks leading to the pickup could be seen and showed it had been traveling eastbound when it drifted off the right side of the road and struck a power pole before descending down the slope into bushes.
Airbags had been deployed during the crash and according to police radio transmissions, witnesses reported the driver was able to get out of the pickup truck and police contacted the driver walking nearby.
As of 1pm, Ferndale Police were still at the scene interviewing witnesses and Puget Sound Energy repair crews arrived at the scene to begin repairs.
Puget Sound Energy reported 143 of their customer were impacted by the outage caused by the crash. Power was reported to have been restored about 1:30pm,
UPDATE: Ferndale Police replied Tuesday to a request for information. They said the driver, identified as Shane W. Squire, age 41 and a Ferndale resident, was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail on probable cause that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Jail records indicated Squire was released from custody Monday afternoon after posting a $1,000 appearance bond.
