BLAINE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to a report of a truck versus motorcycle crash at the intersection of Alderson Road and Blaine Road at 4:15pm today, May 14th.

As a result, Blaine Road was temporarily closed between Alderson Road and Bay Road.

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue (NWFR) Fire Chief Jason Van der Veen said NWFR and Whatcom County Fire District 7 crews arrived to find a patient trapped underneath the front of a semi-truck. They used hydraulic jacks to lift the truck’s front axle to extricate the patient. He said the patient was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center via advanced life support (ALS) protocols.

As of 5:30pm, Washington State Patrol troopers were on scene conducting an investigation according to Trooper Anthony Reese. Reese said the motorcyclist, a male in his 40s, had suffered a leg injury in the crash.

The following morning, Reese said in an email the motorcycle had been northbound on Blaine Road preparing to turn west on Alderson Road. The truck was turning from Alderson Road to go northbound on Blaine Road, failed to see the motorcyclist and they collided in the intersection.

Reese said an infraction will be issued to the truck driver for failure to yield the right of way.
