FERNDALE, Wash. — Work crews have been slowly cutting down several trees at VanderYacht Park over the past several months. This is the result of a report from an arborist hired by the City of Ferndale. The trees were at risk of falling, posing a risk to park-goers and their vehicles according to city staff.
Public Works Supervisor Bo Westford said workers should be wrapping up the work today as they finish removing some poplar trees around the north parking lot. The parking lot will be closed while work is going on.
Westford said work will also begin on removing the tree stumps.
As for replacing the removed trees, City of Ferndale Communications Officer Riley Sweeney said installation of a new vault bathroom and changes to the existing disc golf course arrangement at the park are planned this year and with those changes will come more trees and shrubs.
