Surface and river water flooding impacted roads around Ferndale today, Friday, January 4th, as a result of heavy rains locally and in the north Cascade Mountains.
Closed roads in the Ferndale area as of noon include:
- Barrett and Paradise Roads
- Ferndale Road between Slater Road and Marine Drive
- Marine Drive between Lummi Shore Rd/Dr and Ferndale Road
There are several instances of water over roads as well. Slater Road, while impacted by water over the roadway east of the Nooksack Rive bridge, remained open.
The immediate weather forecast calls for an end to the heavy rains, both locally and in the mountains. As a result the Nooksack River level forecast at Ferndale has been updated to show it cresting today about noon at 15.7-feet. This is 2 feet lower than earlier forecasts that had it cresting near the 18-foot mark.
Anyone know what Smith Rd looks like at that low spot that at times has water over the roadway? The one between Hovander Rd and Labounty?
I recently drove around assessing the many flooded areas. Unfortunately, that was not one I visited. If other surface water flooded locations are any indication, it is far better than it was yesterday.
Also, when in doubt, check the MFN Traffic page since I provide ‘near’ real-time information there.
