FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Public Works (WCPW) has scheduled striping work on Slater Road between Lake Terrell Road and the railroad tracks near LaBounty Drive for Thursday, June 30th beginning at 5am. Drivers can expect long delays as a result.
WCPW advises drivers to take alternate routes during this work when possible.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies will assist with traffic control, and drivers are warned that traffic fines are double in work zones.
Drivers are advised to watch for “wet paint” warning signs and warning trucks, avoid following the work crew too closely and not to drive over wet lane stripes. Fast-drying paint is used that can take up to 5 minutes to dry.
Driving over wet paint removes tiny glass reflector beads in the paint and can cause the long-lasting paint to splatter onto the vehicle.
Striping paint that has splattered on a vehicle will be nearly impossible to remove after it has dried WCPW warns. Applying water under high-pressure within an hour is what they advise.

This project is weather dependent, so dates and times are subject to change.
