TRAFFIC ALERT: Disabled train had Washington Street blocked for 1.5 hours

According to emergency services radio traffic after noon today, a BNSF Rail train was blocking Washington Street by 2nd Avenue since about 11:50am.

A Ferndale Police officer reported by radio the train operator told him a locomotive at the end of the train had become disabled and they were unable to move the train without it.

No word from BNSF yet as to when the railroad crossing can be expected to reopen.

City of Ferndale Public Works crews set up detours helping drivers avoid waiting the yet unknown time for the crossing to reopen

Update 1:20pm
The crossing reopened at 1:20pm. BNSF crews separated the line long of rail cars and used the front locomotive to pull the front-most rail cars forward and off of the crossing thus reopening the crossing to vehicle traffic.
