Tracked cell phone leads Bellingham Police to armed robbery suspect

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 4000 block of Home Road about 10:25pm on Wednesday, November 9th. They spoke with the victims who reported having been pushed around and having a gun pointed at them by 2 subjects who then took a cell phone and wallet along with a backpack and shoes according to an affidavit for probable cause filed by prosecutors in Whatcom County Superior Court.

The affidavit said Bellingham Police officers were told by a witness that the stolen phone was being tracked and appeared to be at an address 3 miles away in the 1500 block of Texas Street. Police responded to that location and found a man matching the description of 1 of the suspects sitting in a vehicle in a parking lot.

The man was detained and found to be in possession of the tracked cell phone. The stolen wallet was located in the vehicle and the shoes were found in bushes near where the robbery was reported.

The suspect, identified as Alexander Immanuel Gutierrez, age 21, was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail. He currently faces 2 charges of 1st-degree robbery in court. His bail was set at $100,000 bond or $10,000 cash according to court records. According to jail records, he posted bond on Saturday, November 12th, and was released from custody.

The other suspect remained at large.
