There have been a few false starts for seeing the state funding come the way of the proposed Thornton Street Overpass project including seeing it removed from last year’s primary transportation budget and then this year making the final version of the supplemental transportation budget but not being signed by the Governor.
Friday marked a point of certainty that had escaped funding up to this point. The Governor’s office announced Friday the Governor Inslee had finally signed the supplemental transportation budget as delivered by state legislators.
The budget signed by the Governor allocates $19.1 million dollars for the project to be distributed over the next six years.
According to a recent presentation by engineers hired by the city, the estimated cost for implementing any of four recommended project designs ranges from $27 to $31 million.
