At approximately the same time, both primary entrances to Ferndale from I-5 were blocked due to totally unrelated circumstances.
About 1:45pm, the railroad crossing arms at Washington Street were reported to be in the down position for an extended period without a train in sight. Initial report was it would probably be that way for a while since Burlington Northern crews were 30 minutes away.
About the same time, a passenger van collided with a work van on Main Street by the northbound ramps to/from I-5. The passenger van took the brunt of the collision showing severe front-end damage. The commercial van was able to be driven away from the scene. It appeared there were no injuries requiring medical aid in either vehicle.
