Discover Ferndale works to provide first-hand information whenever possible. So hearing news of Slater Road possibly reopening today meant having to drive there to confirm (we have heard a lot of unfounded rumors even from those in official capacities).
Driving down Ferndale Road from Main Street did not help to confirm the news as a stream of cars headed northbound from Slater. Sure enough, the Whatcom County “sign guy” (or one of them) could be seen blocking Slater Road with his vehicle at Ferndale Road.
But, just before arriving at the intersection, the “sign guy” suddenly headed west to deal with the huge signs blocking the road at Imhof Road. In short, he had just reopened Slater Road.
It was so unceremonious without horns honking, no confetti, no celebrities making speeches and no line of cars begging to go across. It was just the Discover Ferndale mobile unit and a wide-open road.
