The 124th year of the annual Old Settlers Picnic is this weekend

FERNDALE, Wash. — The 124th Old Settlers Picnic will be held this weekend. This annual event is filled with parades, food, music and fun things to do for all ages. Whether you are attending or simply need to drive through town, here is what to plan for.

Picnic at Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park, located at 1st Avenue and Cherry Street, is the hub of all Old Settlers Picnic activities from Friday through Sunday. Gates open Friday at noon.

The dozen original cedar slab cabins will be open from noon to 9pm on Friday and Saturday. Tour guides dressed in pioneer attire will be on hand to answer questions. On Sunday in the log cabin church there will be a church service at 10:30am and an old time hymn sing at 2pm.

Between the cabins there will be vendors with various products and services along with numerous food and drink providers. Live music can be expected during Friday and Saturday at the Main Stage and later in the evening Friday at the Barr Barn for the annual barn dance (21 and over).

Parades

Old Settlers Junior Parade starts at 6pm on Friday and will begin on 4th Avenue south of Main Street and proceed down Alder Street to 2nd Avenue and then on to Cherry Street. Drivers should be aware these roads will be closed at that time. Participants will begin lining up on 4th Avenue by Alder Street at 4:45pm requiring an earlier closure of that segment of the route.

Old Settlers Grand Parade starts at 11am on Saturday. The parade route begins at Washington Street and 3rd Avenue and continues down 3rd Avenue to Main Street. The route then turns onto Main Street and continues to 1st Avenue where it turns again and continues down 1st Avenue to the end of the route at Cherry Street.

Drivers can expect that before and during the approximately hour-long parade, Main Street will be closed west of Hovander Road and east of 4th Avenue. Also, Washington Street will be closed west of the railroad tracks and east of Vista Drive and 3rd Avenue from Washington Street to Main Street and 1st Avenue from Main Street to Cherry Street will also be closed.

Kids Pioneer Corral

Organizers say there will be 2 bouncy houses, an obstacle course bouncy house and a climbing wall for the kids to play on from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday. These will be located in Pioneer Park by the Main Stage.

5k Run & 2 Mile Walk

LEFT 5k Run and 2-mile Walk event will begin Saturday morning at 9am. The course begins and ends at the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center next to Pioneer Park. Runner registrations help support the Ferndale Police Association.

Drivers should be alert for runners on the course which includes Main Street, Douglas Road, Imhof Road, Ulrich Road and Ferndale Road.

Classic Car Show

Saturday from 9am to 3pm expect to see one of the largest collections of classic and high performance vehicles in the county. The car show is located in the Central Elementary School playground at 1st and Cherry Street.
