PSE reported over 300 of their customers lost power.
The initial estimate for restoring power was 4pm and no cause for the outage was given.
The driver was booked into Whatcom County Jail while Puget Sound Energy crews continued repairing the downed pole into the early morning hours.
The resulting power outage spread north across Main Street and east across I-5.
A crash at Brown and N Star Roads is suspected of causing the outage.
Many began wondering what could cause such a widespread outage.
UPDATE 5:30pm
- PSE reported the number of impacted customers is down to 32 and revised the estimate for restoring power to them to 9pm.
Power was restored about an hour and a half after the outage began.
