Bellingham Police later reported the man was located safe

He is a suspect in the murder of a 31-year-old woman in a stairwell of a downtown Bellingham building on February 8th.
The woman is seen punching the victim before returning to a car the suspect was driving.
Patrol officers found a deceased woman in a stairwell with a gunshot wound.
"An unknown civilian stepped forward, fires multiple handgun rounds at YOUNG to protect the deputies."
Bellingham Police booked him into the jail while an independent investigation is underway.
The suspect reportedly fired 8 shots over the water and then left south on South Bay Trail.
It was reported the suspect presented a note and it was inferred he had a gun.
The suspect reportedly displayed a handgun, demanded cash and then fled on foot.
