WSDA will be attempting to trap a live Asian giant hornet in the area, tag it and track it back to its nest.
“This is encouraging because it means we know that the traps work, But it also means we have work to do.”
Citizen trappers are encouraged to put up and monitor traps into the fall.
The first confirmed sighting this year occurred in north Custer.
A live streamed talk about the Asian giant hornet is scheduled for 7pm this evening.
Citizens with suspected sightings or evidence of bee hive attacks are asked to submit a report.
State and federal labs confirmed the specimen was an Asian giant hornet.
"The first step to eradicating this invasive pest - which threatens honeybees and all the crops they pollinate - is to locate the existing Asian giant hornet colonies."
