The species won’t be considered eradicated until at least 3 years of no sightings and no captures.
WSDA officials have said they will continue to set traps until there have been 3 successive years with no confirmed northern giant hornet captures.
Traps used are made from a 2-liter or 64-ounce plastic bottles and target Asian giant hornet workers in the summer and fall.
AGHs captured live have been followed to 4 nests, 1 in 2020 and 3 in 2021.
