Suspect in Ferndale school “weapons violation” apprehended after turning self in

FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale School District and Ferndale Police Department issued another joint press release regarding the reason for Ferndale High School students and staff going on lockdown status yesterday, December 1st.

The Ferndale Police announcement of the press release said “a weapons violation” had occurred yesterday.

Ferndale Families,

The suspect involved in bringing a weapon on to the Ferndale High School property was apprehended early this morning after he turned himself over to law enforcement.  The weapon, which was also seized, was confirmed to be a BB gun.  The suspect, whose name is not being released, was turned over to his legal guardian.  

The Ferndale Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident and expects to file criminal charges with the Whatcom County Prosecutor’s Office.  In addition, Ferndale School District will be taking disciplinary action.
