Ferndale Police announced early this morning they had arrested a suspect in yesterday’s hit-and-run crash at Thornton Street and Church Road.

Ferndale Police Sergeant Kevin Davis said officers’ investigation led them to the suspect vehicle and driver. Davis said officers contacted Eduardo Vargas, age 26, who admitted to being the driver in the hit-and-run incident. He was arrested under suspicion of hit-and-run and also received a ticket for no insurance accord to Davis.

Vargas is suspected of being the driver of a black pickup truck involved in a T-bone crash in the intersection of Church Road and Thornton Street yesterday around 6pm.

According to Ferndale Police, the pickup was eastbound on Thornton Street when it failed to stop at the signed 4-way stop intersection and crashed into the driver’s side of a red Ford Explorer traveling northbound through the intersection on Church Road.

The impact spun the Ford around and the pickup truck left the scene. Evidence at the scene and a witness provided officers with a description of the pickup.

The 2 occupants of the Ford were treated and released at the scene by Whatcom County Fire District 7 firefighters and EMTs.
