Surprise winds hit Ferndale

Update 12pm: PSE is reporting a small outage in the Poplar Place neighborhood (south of Main Street and east of Douglas Road). 10 PSE customers are reported impacted by the outage which was initially reported about 11:45am. No cause has been determined and the estimated restoration time is 2pm, the standard 1.5 hour estimate.

So far no power outages have been reported and no weather warnings issued, but Ferndale has seen a surprise wind storm this morning with 60+ mph gusts recorded.

You were not imagining it. As of 11:15am, four gusts over 60mph and several between 40 and 50mph since 9am were recorded at a Ferndale weather station (see graphic). The National Weather Service has not issued any advisories or warnings related to this unforecast wind event.

Puget Sound Energy is reporting no outages in the area as of the time of this story.

The weather forecast for Ferndale today says to expect possible thunderstorms today and this evening.
