Sunday head-on crash temporarily closes Grandview Road

CUSTER, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 3:55pm on Sunday, June 5th, to near the intersection Grandview Road and Salashan Parkway.

According to witness reports, a pickup and a semi-truck with a tanker trailer collided head-on.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Justin Iverson told Whatcom News they transported the driver of the pickup to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding told Whatcom News they had arrested the driver of the pickup for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Harding said Grandview Road between Portal Way and Vista Drive was closed while awaiting a tow truck to clear the semi-truck from the scene.

Washington State Department of Transportation announced the road had been reopened by 7pm.
