SUMAS, Wash. — Sumas Mayor Kyle Christensen detailed some of the impacts from the recent flooding disaster on the residents in Whatcom County.
Key statistics included the following.
- about 1,200 homes have been impacted
- many have lost everything
- many were inundated by 6 feet of floodwaters
- over 100 people called 911 needing assistance to be evacuated or rescued in a day
Christensen suggested donations to assist those impacted by the flooding be made to the Whatcom Community Foundation’s Resilience Fund.
