FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale Downtown Association (FDA) official announced the 13th annual Ferndale Citywide Clean Up Day, originally scheduled for this Saturday, April 18th, has been canceled due to the stay at home and social distancing mandates intended to minimize the spread of COVID-19 disease.

FDA President Bertella Hansen said in a phone call she was hopeful a date could be set in the fall.

Citywide Clean Up Day is an annual event typically held on the 3rd Saturday of April that provides an opportunity for volunteers to help clean up around the downtown area and for residents to take advantage of free document shredding and garbage and metal recycling disposal in large containers located in the Ferndale City Hall parking lot.

The city donates the City Hall parking lot and FDA seeks out businesses to sponsor document shredding service, garbage, metal, electronics and appliance disposal.

Last year’s turnout, both in volunteers and disposal drop-offs, was by far the largest in the event’s history according to FDA officials.
