Some Ford vehicle owners warned to park outside due to fire risk

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a consumer alert today, May 19th, after Ford Motor Co. issued a warning to rental car companies and other owners of 2021 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators to park their vehicles outside due to the risk of fire.

The automaker has confirmed 16 fires, mostly in vehicles that were unattended. 14 of the fires were in rental cars. The fires occurred in vehicles that were parked and turned off.

Owners of the affected vehicles are warned not to not park them inside and to only park outside, away from structures.

More than 39,000 vehicles are affected by these announcements and to date there has been no known cause or remedy provided.
