FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Parks & Recreation announced this morning, Wednesday, April 20th, northern parts of Hovander Homestead Park that have been closed since November 2021 due to flood damage have been reopened.

According to the announcement, areas that have been reopened include the following.

  • WDFW boat launch parking lot
  • Nooksack River trail extending from the boat launch parking lot
  • off-leash dog area east of the trail

The trail has been repaired and the boat launch parking lot has been graded making these areas accessible.

Tennant Lake Interpretive Center and boardwalk, Fragrance Garden and remaining areas of Hovander Park currently remain closed to the public. Since the restroom building remains closed for repair, a portable restroom and handwash station have been placed at the boat launch parking lot.

Flood damage cleanup and repair efforts continue, and a full opening of the park is anticipated by mid-May according to today’s announcement.
