Forecasters have increased the amount of expected snow accumulation from today’s snowfall.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from noon today to 8pm this evening due to expected snowfall today, Friday, February 23rd.
The advisory says to expect up to 2 inches of snow accumulation in western Whatcom County lowlands and 2 to 5 inches in areas northeast of Bellingham near the border (e.g. Lynden and Sumas).
Computer models expect snowfall in the Ferndale area between 10am and 4pm and then again from 6pm past midnight. The snow is expected to change over to rain in the early morning hours after midnight as the system bringing the precipitation moves out of the area and temperatures return to well above freezing.
There is a possibility for localized thunderstorms during the transition.
Light snow returns to the forecast late Monday evening.
Today’s weather can be expected to impact driving conditions, including the evening commute, with 1.5 inches of snowfall expected by 4pm.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time to get where they are going, slow down and maintain greater distances between vehicles under these conditions.
