Snow expected at sea level in Whatcom County becoming heavy above 500 feet

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Forecasters in the Seattle office of the National Weather Service have issued a winter storm watch today, Sunday, January 14th, for areas 500 feet and above in the northern counties of western Washington, including Whatcom County.

The watch is in effect from 4pm Tuesday, January 16th, through 10am Thursday, January 18th.

The watch statement warns that heavy snow is expected above 500 feet with 4 to 12 inches below 1,500 feet and 18 to 30 inches above. Amounts around 3 feet are expected above 5,000 feet.

Snow levels will begin near sea level, then rise to 1500 to 2500 feet by Wednesday morning. National Weather Service (January 14, 2024)
