Forecasters had expected today’s snow was most likely to begin around 4pm but by 2pm today, March 6th, the flakes were falling around the Ferndale area in earnest.
As of 3pm, Ferndale area roads remained bare and wet. The high temperature for the day as reported by a weather station near Ferndale High School was 38° at about 12:30pm. By about 2:30pm, the temperature had dropped to about 33° and began holding there.
Environment Canada forecasters say to expect about 2 inches of accumulation by this evening. National Weather Service forecasters say little or no snow accumulation is exected. And the Wunderground forecast says to expect between 1 and 3 inches. All agree the snow is expected to taper off later this evening.
Another snow event is possible tomorrow and even more so tomorrow evening according to EC and NWS forecasters. Like today’s, it is a matter of when the precipitation arrives and whether the temperatures are or become cold enough to produce snow or warm enough for it to fall as rain.
