Last night, shortly after 10pm, Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters were dispatched to the historic Leader Block Building at 2028 Main Street.
A ladder truck, 2 fire engines and the battalion unit arrived and determined there was no fire but an upstairs apartment was filled with smoke according to WCFD7 Division Chief Ben Boyko.
Upon further investigation it was determined the smoke was the result of cleaner on the inside of the apartment oven that caused the smoke.
“Crews turned off gas to the oven and removed smoke from the building,” Boyko said. There were no injuries or damage.
