Single Vehicle Crash on I-5 Thursday Night by Rest Area

Just minutes before a radio dispatch sent aid and law enforcement to the scene of a crash on I-5 northbound, there had been an alert for an erratic driver in the same area.

About 7:55pm tonight, September 17th, fire, aid and Washington State Patrol units were dispatched to a crash on northbound I-5 north of Grandview Road by the rest area. A single vehicle had driven into the median and ended up at the base of a solitary tree. The vehicle was too mangled to identify its type when viewed from the roadway. The windshield was only partially attached.

First responders to arrive reported via radio finding a woman in her fifties, unconscious and pinned in the vehicle.

About 30 minutes later, an ambulance left the scene heading toward Bellingham with lights and sirens indicating via radio they were headed to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

There were no official specifics about cause, number of people in the vehicle or vehicle description at the time of this article. One lane of traffic remained opened during the rescue and investigation.
