Yesterday’s snow event was expected to transition to rain as temperatures warmed overnight. But, as of 6am, temperatures in areas north of Slater Road were still at or below freezing and precipitation was still falling as snow. Temperatures south of Slater Road had begun climbing above freezing.
Traffic cameras on I-5 and Discover Ferndale webcams showed road surfaces covered with snow in the Ferndale area.
National Weather Service forecasters remain confident temperatures will rise and remain well above freezing today across western Washington but noted the pocket of cold air lingering in Whatcom County.
Environment Canada says to expect the snowfall to end this morning and radar images confirm there remains only a slight chance of localized precipitation remaining as the system appears to be leaving the area.
Around 4am, wind direction shifted from south-easterly to northerly followed by a 5° drop in temperature according to a weather station located near Ferndale High School. As of 6am, temperatures were continuing to drop.

Drivers can expect roads to be slick this morning and should adjust their speed and distance between vehicles accordingly.
