FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Fire District 17 firefighters were dispatched to a report of a residential fire in the 3700 block of Cyprus way about 9pm last night, July 27th.

According to Fire Chief Jim Petrie, a passerby noticed smoke coming from under the Sandy Point Heights mobile home and called 911. “Upon arrival, I found flames on the rear corner of the structure,” Petrie said.

Our first in engine quickly extinguished that fire. Upon removing the skirting we encountered more fire under the mobile home. Crews extinguished that fire as well. Damage was limited to some exterior siding and underside structural joists. Very little damage to the interior except for smoke damage.

The early alert from the passerby “was a huge factor in being able to save this home,” Petrie said.

Nobody was in the mobile home at the time of the fire and the cause appeared to be electrical according to Petrie.
