FERNDALE, Wash. — A person was reported to have been transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Medical Center “code red” due to injuries resulting from a fire near the intersection of Kickerville and Brown Roads this afternoon.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 personnel were dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire near a residential structure today, December 1st, about 3:45pm. According to WCFD7 Division Chief Justin Iverson, a recreational vehicle (RV) parked next to a house suddenly caught fire with one occupant who was able to get out.
Iverson said via text message, “the occupant may have suffered some smoke inhalation and was transported, code red, to SJER.” He added that WCFD7 Engine 42 “made it on scene quickly and made a great save on the house that was right next to the RV.”
Division Chief Ben Boyko said a SUV, trailer and a wall of a house adjacent to the RV also caught fire. While the RV and SUV are considered a total loss and the trailer sustained heavy damage, the quick action by the Engine 42 crew resulted in extinguishing the house exterior fire before any serious damage could occur. Iverson said the house occupants will be able to remain.
North Whatcom Fire & Rescue personnel also responded and assisted with tenders and additional manpower according to Iverson.
