BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to a report of a rollover crash in the southbound I-5 lanes between the Sunset Drive and State Street interchanges today, Friday, March 11th, about 12:45pm.

Initial reports from the scene were of a non-injury crash involving a single vehicle towing a trailer loaded with pallets of mortar mix.

As of 1pm, traffic appeared to be able to get past the crash scene via the left shoulder.

Washington State Trooper Jacob Kennett told Whatcom News a southbound utility truck lost control, and over corrected, causing the trailer to roll, dumping its load. Many of the bags of the mix broke open spreading the dry powder across the right lane and into the left.

The driver was issued an infraction for improper towing.

As of 2pm, Kennett said they were awaiting a WSDOT sweeper to clean up debris so that both lanes could be reopened.

As of 2:45pm, both lanes had been reopened to traffic. Southbound traffic was backed up about 3 miles to the Northwest Avenue interchange.
