FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to a report of a vehicle crash in the 5900 block of Elder Road about 3:30pm today, February 29th. They found a passenger vehicle on its top in the ditch along the east side of the road.

The driver was seen being placed in handcuffs by Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies at the scene.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said the driver was the only patient at the scene and he refused medical aid.

Tire tracks and debris at the scene indicated the blue BMW 325i had been southbound on Elder when it crossed the northbound lane, leaving the roadway and striking some trees before coming to a stop on its top in the ditch. There was heavy damage to the BMW’s front end.

According to unconfirmed radio transmissions from the scene, the vehicle would be impounded. At the time of this story, it was unknown what charges, if any, the driver may be facing.
