The National Weather Service (NWS) has updated their forecast for the windstorms coming through the area.
Today’s windstorm has been wrecking havoc for hours since this morning. Wind gusts in excess of 60mph have been recorded at a weather station located near Ferndale High School.
The NWS Seattle office updated today’s High Wind Warning this afternoon, extending it until 6pm today. The statement confirms, “south winds 20 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60mph today.”
A High Wind Warning replaces a High Wind Watch for Saturday’s windstorm. The warning statement says,
South winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts to 70 mph are likely late Saturday afternoon and evening. [emphasis added]
Saturday’s High Wind Warning will be in effect from 3pm Saturday until 2am Sunday.
The Nooksack River level forecast has been reduced from an estimated peak of 17.5′ to just over 15′ Saturday afternoon. Official flood stage is 19′.
