Residential fire in Ferndale deemed suspicious, being investigated

FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 6000 block of Hatton Place in Ferndale about 4am, Saturday, May 14th due to a report of flames coming from the residence.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Justin Iverson told Whatcom News that firefighters arrived to find nothing showing from the street but discovered light smoke inside during “a 360°-walkaround.”

Firefighters made entry to the residence and determined it to be unoccupied. They determined the source of the smoke to be an extinguished “fire of suspicious origin.” Firefighters remained to remove the remaining smoke from the interior.

The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
