ACME, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 1pm on Thursday, October 20th, to a report of a residential fire in the 5200 block of Turkington Road in Acme.

Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office Inspector Will Anderson told Whatcom News at the scene that the homeowner was using a grinder in the garage when the sparks caused a fire which destroyed the garage and spread to the attic of the living area.

The owner was the only one home at the time and was able to get out safely.

As of 4:30pm, flames were still visible coming from the attic and traffic was alternating through a single open lane on Valley Highway.
