An attic space fire that damaged the offices of Republic Services on Slater Road Monday, June 20th forced the company to temporarily shut down their waste disposal and recycling operations.

But, according to Republic Services Operations Manager Scott Bissell, power was restored about 4pm yesterday enabling them to get back to “business as usual.”

Bissell said they were able to take care of their industrial customers Tuesday and Wednesday, but only with the help of neighboring business, Parberry Environmental Solutions.  “They offered us the use of their scale while we were down. We were very grateful for that.” Bissell added, “We also let our ‘mom and pop’ customers dump for free. Our loss was their gain.”

Bissell told Discover Ferndale he was very appreciative of the efforts of the firefighters with Whatcom Fire District 7 who, he said, kept a bad situation from getting much worse.

Due to some structural damage from the fire, it will be a while before the company can fully return to using the office building according to Bissell.
