Despite record snowstorms in February, snowpack in the northern Pacific Northwest remains below normal. As a result, the water supply forecast for the west side of the Cascades for the period April to September is 80 to 95% of normal.
The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center also recently issued a new 3-month seasonal drought outlook that says drought development is likely for most of western Washington.
These less than optimistic outlooks should make this morning’s rain a welcome sight for most in the Puget Sound area.
Weather forecasters say this weather system will pass by this afternoon leaving cloudy skies and a chance of rain though this evening.
