The public is invited to attend an active shooter preparedness training. The presentation is hosted by the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce and presented by a member of the Ferndale Police Department special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team.
Active shooter civilian response training presentations are occurring with increased frequency across the nation over the past few years. Experts note the number of active shooter incidents continues to increase in the US with the FBI reporting a yearly average of just over 10 as of 2013.
The Ferndale presentation will emphasize using the Avoid – Deny – Defend™ strategy when faced with an active shooter situation.
Proponents of the Avoid – Deny – Defend strategy encourage learning the strategies and sharing them in order to increase the opportunity for everyone to survive possible threats in the workplace, church, school and other areas in the community. The Avoid – Deny – Defend strategy is geared toward a variety of locations including small office, large room and retail store environments.
Space is limited for the Ferndale presentation so anyone wanting to attend is required to pre-register. This can be done online by clicking here or by contacting Audrey at the Ferndale Chamber office at (360) 384-3042.
The presentation will be held Thursday, September 14th, from 4pm to 5pm in the main conference/training room at the Ferndale Police Department.
