Officials say the driver of a propane distribution truck cut the corner at Kickerville and Grandview Roads (SR548) too close causing the back end of the trailer to end up in a ditch shortly after 5pm yesterday. Due to its flammable cargo, the road was closed in both directions while the tanker trailer was removed from ditch.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said crews first off-loaded the fuel from the tanker before attempting to bring it back on the road.
A detour route around the closure was set up via Brown Road between Kickerville Road and N Star Road.
Kickerville Road and Grandview Road are on the truck detour route around the Slater Road closure. Due to the increase truck traffic turning onto Grandview Road at that intersection, a 4-way traffic stop was installed in early May.
According to a report from the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the truck was northbound on Kickerville Road and attempted a right turn at Grandview Road. “Due to the high volume of traffic, there was not enough room for the vehicle to turn safely,” the report said. There were no injuries and WSP said there were no charges.
WSDOT reported the road was reopened just before midnight.
