Power outage follows pickup truck vs pole crash on Ferndale Road

FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Ferndale Road in the area of Ulrich Road this morning, April 19th, about 8am.

According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko they arrived to find a pickup had left the road and struck a power pole, breaking it. The driver refused aid.

Tire tracks showed the grey Toyota pickup had been heading northbound on Ferndale Road when it left the road on the west side before striking the power pole.

The impact caused the pole to fall back onto the pickup leaving it leaning over the road, supported only by the attached lines, including power lines. County Public Works posted road closed signage on Ferndale Road.

Puget Sound Energy crews were notified about the repairs needed according to Boyko.

About 8:50am, a power outage impacting 13 PSE customers in the immediate area of the crash was reported. The crash was determined to be the cause of the outage.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies were investigating the crash.
