FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 9:20am yesterday, September 28th, to a report of a crash in the roundabout at the northbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Portal Way.
According to Ferndale Police, a Ford Mustang was in the roundabout from the I-5 off-ramp when a small truck heading east west on Portal Way failed to yield and entered the roundabout, striking the Mustang on the driver’s passenger’s side, causing moderate damage to both vehicles.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Fire Chief Dean Crosswhite said the driver of the Mustang was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Ferndale Police say the driver of the truck was cited for failure to yield to a vehicle in an intersection.
UPDATE: Subsequent to the original story being published, the driver of the Mustang (and others purporting to be in the know) contacted My Ferndale News to say, contrary to the police report, the Mustang had been struck on the passenger side and the truck had been traveling westbound on Portal Way. When asked about the apparent discrepancies, officials with the Ferndale Police provided a correction to their report of the incident as indicated in the story.
