FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale Police and Whatcom County Fire District 7 personnel responded to a report of a crash on Portal Way at Newkirk Road just before 1pm today, January 5th.

Minutes prior, What-Comm dispatchers had notified law enforcement of unconfirmed reports that a grey Honda CR-V had just been seen driving erratically on Main Street heading westbound toward I-5 and later northbound on Portal Way from I-5.

It was later confirmed that same vehicle was involved in the crash on Portal Way. According to officials at the scene, it appeared the Honda had rear-ended a pickup while they were both northbound on Portal Way and the pickup was slowing or stopped to turn left at Newkirk Road.

There was extensive front end damage to the Honda and airbags were deployed. The pickup appeared to have been hauling a load of packaged flooring, some of which ended up on the ground after the crash as the pickup sustained rear end damage.

Ferndale Police were still conducting their investigation of the crash at the time of this story.
