Ferndale Police are hoping the following information and photos will aid in identifying two suspects in an attempted vehicle theft.

According to a press release received from Ferndale Police today, at about 3pm Wednesday, December 13th, Ferndale Police officers responded to the Ferndale Grocery Outlet, 1750 LaBounty Drive, for a report of attempted theft of a motor vehicle. The victim reported parking his vehicle in the store’s parking lot earlier in the afternoon and returned to his vehicle at about 3pm to discover the plastic covering around the car’s steering column was laying on the floor and there were several keys in the vehicle that did not belong to the victim.

Two male suspects can be seen on store surveillance video sitting in a vehicle near the victim’s around 1:45pm. One suspect gets out of their vehicle and enters the victim’s vehicle through the driver’s side door. A short time later, the victim’s vehicle can be seen moving forward a few feet and stopping abruptly. Police said the victim’s vehicle had been started, but was equipped with a “kill switch,” causing it to become disabled, preventing the suspects from leaving the area with it.

The two suspects then drove away in their vehicle only to return to the grocery store parking lot a few minutes later. They walked into the Grocery Outlet store and left a short time later without making any purchases and drove away.
