Plan for Wet & Windy Days Ahead

Today, Tuesday, December 1st, may be the last dry day for a while. The National Weather Service forecast predicts several fronts can be expected to roll across the region beginning later today and continuing through the weekend bringing with them the potential for heavy rain and gusty winds.

So far the NWS forecast does not specifically foretell of damaging winds or flood-producing rains. But it does expect several 24-hour periods with rainfall amounts in the quarter-inch to half-inch ranges with breaks between each front. Winds, while gusty, are not expected to be strong enough to warrant advisories or warnings.

The Nooksack River level forecast predicts the river will begin rising tomorrow and reach a level of 12 feet by December 10th, the furthest date out on the forecast. River flooding is usually not expected unless the river achieves a level of 17 feet at Ferndale.

With a forecast for rain across several days comes the possibility of surface water flooding roadways and property. Drivers should be alert for standing water on roads.
