The Nooksack River has begun its rise as predicted by the National Weather Service. If it reaches levels high enough overnight, conditions all to familiar, drivers will encounter water over roads as well as the possibility of closed roads.
The following timetable is based on the latest river level forecast
- 17 feet about 4am Wednesday
- 18 feet about 10am Wednesday
- 18.5 feet (cresting – just below official flood stage) about 4pm Wednesday
- 18 feet Wednesday evening
- 17 feet Thursday morning
The good news is the forecast crest level is about 1 foot below earlier predictions. This puts it below the official flood stage but still at levels able to push water over roads and cause road closures.
Be alert when driving on roads near the river, creeks and streams especially during the early morning hours before sunrise.
