A monument sign greeting locals and visitors arriving at the Pioneer Park parking lot on Cherry Street at 1st Avenue has been installed.
Last year, the City of Ferndale and Ferndale City Council moved forward with designing and installing a similar monument sign for City Hall. The City Hall sign was said to be the first of a series of wayfinding signs funded in part by grant funding from the Port of Bellingham.
At the time, then City Administrator Greg Young told City Councilmembers staff had already applied for $10,000 in grant money for a $20,000 sign at Pioneer Park.

Click for more informationThe Pioneer Park sign provides directional guidance to the different features within the park, including Pioneer Village (the pioneer cabins), Star Park, Phillips 66 Sports Complex, Ferndale Senior Activity Center and Pioneer Pavilion Community Center.
According to City staff, the total cost for the Pioneer Park sign was $825 for design and $12,772 for construction. Signs Plus Inc. of Bellingham was contracted to build the sign.
The Port of Bellingham grant will continue to be available over the next few years according to City staff but at continuing smaller dollar amounts each year.
