FERNDALE, Wash. — A woman was transported by ambulance after driving her pickup truck into an outside wall of the 260 Tobacco and Fine Spirits store in the 4900 block of Rural Avenue.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said the pickup had struck an unmarked US Customs and Border Protection pickup truck in the parking lot before colliding with the building.
WCFD7 personnel were dispatched to the scene about 10:45am today, December 10th. The driver was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries according to Boyko.
Washington State Patrol was dispatched to investigate. WSP Trooper Heather Axtman said the driver was unwilling to provide any means of identification so the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Crime Unit was contacted to fingerprint her.
As a result of the WSP investigation, Sinchenelks Tina Greene, age 41, was booked into the Whatcom County Jail charged with suspicion of the following charges:
- driving under the influence (DUI)
- 3rd degree driving while license suspended
- operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock
- failure to obey a police officer
As of this afternoon, Greene was being held pending a $4,000 bond.
Boyko said damage was limited to a panel in the entry way to the store and there was no structural damage to the building. He expected the business would continue to remain open.
